How I Fucked Up A Recent Webflow Project: 4 Mistakes To Avoid For Webflow Freelancers
1 Article, 1 Podcast, 3 Inspirational Websites, 3 Webflow Jobs. Let's do this!
Hey Webflailers - Jack here.
This week has been a tough one. A lot of things have happened which feels like the boat is being rocked - Adobe buying Figma, the Queen’s funeral and rocketing fuel prices.
While facing all sorts of uncertainty, I find it comforting to know that there are things you can control. You can control how you conduct yourself and how you respond to situations and events.
Just keep on trucking and head toward your mountain. Whatever and wherever that mountain may be. Things will go wrong but, ultimately, you have more dominion over your life than you may think and than it may seem at times.
How I Fucked Up A Recent Webflow Project: 4 Mistakes To Avoid For Webflow Freelancers
Last month, I did a project for Crafted Studio. The project ended up being a mess because I made mistakes that could’ve been avoided during the development, client communication and the handover process. The client was disappointed and it slightly dampened the client relationship since the website launch had to be delayed after a lot of hard work.
Thankfully, Dexter Washington, the studio founder was graceful enough to walk me through the mistakes I made to make me a better webflower not just from a development perspective, but also from the perspective of client management. A huge shoutout to him for teaching me more than anyone in the Webflow community. If you’re not subscribed to his newsletter ‘Designers Desk,’ I sincerely recommend it.
Also, shout out to Chris Loggins for being a Webflow wizard helping to fix bugs with the project. If anyone can fix a mess of a project, Chris can.
Dealing With Imposter Syndrome | With Kaela Williams
Kaela’s honesty about imposter syndrome was the part of this interview that was most thought provoking for me.
At the start of your journey, it’s a struggle. You’re putting in hours in to trying to get clients, learn skills, carefully think about your processes etc and even though you’re putting in tonnes of effort, you may not feel even half as good as other Webflowers that you see on social media. It can be quite debilitating to see people post their amazing work and wins that you are not having.
As Kaela says though, instead of getting worked up about the clients you’re not getting and the success other people are having, it’s more productive to congratulate those that are having success and work out what you can learn from them.
